Junior professional sales and French major Austin Acel nominated President Paul Ferguson for the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) ice bucket challenge on Aug. 19.

The ALS ice bucket challenge has gone viral in recent months on various social media forms. Those challenged have 24 hours to complete the challenge or donate money for ALS.

“I’m a person who believes go big or go home,” Acel said. “As soon as I saw Ball State Greek Life did it, I was like, I think it’s time for the president of the university to do it.”

Acel is a residence hall assistant in Brayton/Clevenger in the LaFollette Complex. He met Ferguson when he helped move freshmen into the dorm, and he said both the president and his wife were “really nice people.”

Acel said he thinks Ferguson won’t accept the challenge.

“I would feel so bad if he did it and something [bad] happened,” Acel said. “I hope he does it. I will stay positive and maybe it will get to the right people, and the right people will send it his way.”
