The Ball State men’s tennis team defeated Western Michigan 4-3 today. The win improves the team’s record to 10-9 overall and 2-2 in Mid-American Conference play.
The Broncos jumped out to an early lead after capturing the point for doubles play. Ball State's sole doubles victory was a result of Junior Ray Leonard and senior Austin Smith defeating Western Michigan pair Nadin Indre and Ruben Greiner, 8-5.
In singles play though, Ball State captured four points.
Leonard fell at the No. 1 spot, giving Western Michigan a 2-0 lead.
Ball State fought back in the next four matches with wins from freshmen Andrew Stutz, Patrick Downs and Lucas Andersen. The Cardinals tied the match 3-3, setting the stage for junior Patrick Elliot.
Elliot defeated Western Michigan’s Greiner 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 to secure Ball State’s fourth point, and the team’s second conference victory of the season.
Ball State returns to action against non-conference opponent IUPUI at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
