Ball State appoints new immersive learning director

Ball State has appointed an associate professor of theatre as the new director of immersive learning.

Jennifer Blackmer will take the post  May 12  working as the director of the Virginia B. Ball Center for Creative Inquiry. 

Blackmer has previously created four immersive learning projects and in 2011, she received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the university. 

“Jennifer brings tremendous experience to this position,” said Terry King, provost and vice president for academic affairs, in a press release. “She is a proven collaborator and innovator. We are quite fortunate to have her assume this vital position on campus.”

Blackmer will be responsible for overseeing immersive learning activities and work to help faculty and students cerate programs, according to the press release. 

“Immersive learning is the hallmark of a Ball State education, and everything about it deeply aligns with my philosophy of teaching and learning and, frankly, of life,” Blackmer said. “I have seen firsthand the transformative impact this mode of learning has on students. I couldn’t be more enthusiastic to become the chief advocate for immersive learning, both on and off campus.”
