The University Police Department and Muncie Fire Department extinguished a vehicle fire on the top level of the McKinley Avenue parking garage earlier this evening.

The car belongs to Kyle Kincer, a freshman music media production major. Kincer said he started the car to warm it up and locked the keys inside.

He left with friends to find a way to unlock it and was about to call a tow service, but before he did, he was told it was on fire.

“All my stuff is in it,” Kincer said.

After officials extinguished the fire, Kincer was able to remove his belongings. He said many of his things were not damaged.

Chuck Casada, a MFD lieutenant, said this is something his department sees every day.

“If something’s going to happen, it’s going to happen in this weather,” Casada said.

Five police and at least two firefighters were at the scene.
