The Ball State women’s swimming and diving team ended day two of the Miami Invitational in the sixth spot out of eight.

Friday evening at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center, senior Bridgette Ruehl continued what has been a dominant season with another win and a season-best time of 1:01.53 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

This extended her unbeaten streak in the event and gave Ball State its only win.

While the team scored seventh place in the 400-yard medley relay — composed of freshman Courtney Mudd, Ruehl, senior Haley Richter and junior Carlena Magley — the event time of 3:49.42 gained them the fourth-fastest time in school history.

The record times did not end there. In the 200-yard freestyle, junior Jordan VanWinkle reached the finals with a season-best time of 1:52.13 for a sixth-best time in Ball State’s records, though she finished 19th.

Magley, freshman Audrey Rodawig, VanWinkle and freshman Jessica Extine combined to give Ball State a ninth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a season-best time of 1:36.58.

The 200-yard butterfly saw freshman Katie Horn advance to the finals after her lifetime best time of 2:06.60 in the preliminaries. She finished the event in 16th place with a time of 2:09.39.

Junior KaylaHussey finished right behind her with a season-best time of 2:08.69.

Extine and Magley went to the finals for the 50-yard freestyle. Extine swam a season-best time of 24.15 in the preliminaries, but finished in 25th place with a time of 24.38.

Senior Mallory Miles, freshman Kimberly Scott and Horn advanced to the finals of the 400-yard IM. Miles finished at 22nd place while Scott and Horn came in 23rd and 26th.

The last day of the Miami Invitational is today, with final events beginning at 6 p.m.
