WOMEN’S TENNIS: Ball State finishes first day of UC Invite

The Ball State women’s tennis team concluded day one of play at the UC Invite, which includes host school University of Cincinnati, Bowling Green State University and Xavier University.

In doubles play, the Cardinals posted a 2-3 record, with the two
wins coming in round one of play. Bethany Moore and Kristel Sanders
defeated Xavier’s Alex Brinker and Sydney Liggins, 8-4, while the
duo of Toni Ormond and Courtney Earnest toppled Xavier’s Cristina Di
Lorenzo and Daniella Patton by the score of 8-6. Courtney Wild and
Ashlyn Rang were the third Ball State doubles team to participate in
round one action, falling to Xavier’s Allyson Westling and Andrea
Wolf, 8-5.

The second round of doubles play did not fare as well for the
Cardinals, as Ball State went 0-3. Moore and Sanders fell to
Bowling Green’s Emily Reuland and Drew Fillis, 8-3; Ormond and
Earnest were defeated by Katie Brozovich and Nikki Chiricosta, 8-6; while Wild and Marrin Kanii lost, 8-4, to Hannah Drayton and Harley Hutchison, also from Bowling Green.

In round one of singles play, Ball State was able to come away
with a 4-2 record. Wild defeated Cincinnati’s Kelly Poggensee-Wei,
6-4, 5-7 (6), Earnest beat Ashleigh Witte of Cincinnati, 6-3, 6-4,
Sanders moved pass Cincinnati’s Caitlin O’Gara, 6-4, 6-2, and
Moore defeated Katya Bure of Cincinnati by the score of, 6-3, 7-5.

Day three of the UC Invite is Sunday.
