CROSS COUNTRY: Ball State to play in Jenna Strong Cross Country Invitational

After canceling its Ball State Invitational for this Friday, the women’s cross country team will travel to Wilmington, Ohio, to compete in the Jenna Strong Cross Country Invitational at Wilmington College.

The women’s 5k race will take place at 4:40 p.m. Friday.

Ball State is coming off an eighth-place finish at the Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 5, where sophomore Danielle Dahl crossed the finish line first for Ball State, the first time ever in her career.

This will be the Cardinals first time participating in the Jenna Strong CC Invitational, and Ball State will enter this invitational in an atmosphere of heavy hearts and emotions.

In August, one of Wilmington College’s cross country runners, Jenna Parlette collapsed just shy of the finish line while leading the Franklin Invitational. She never regained consciousness and died three days later.

Wilmington College changed the name of the Wilmington Fall Classic to the Jenna Strong CC Invitational after the runner’s death.

The athletic department for Wilmington College plans to host a presentation before the race. This meet will also serve as a remembrance to Parlette.

Ball State is one out of the 40 other teams participating in the invitational.
