FORT WAYNE, Ind. — President Barack Obama has appointed a former northeastern Indiana congresswoman and gubernatorial nominee to lead the Farm Credit Administration as chairwoman and chief executive officer.
The Journal Gazette reported Obama appointed Jill Long Thompson on Wednesday.
He appointed Thompson to a four-year term on the FCA’s full-time, three-member board in 2010. The FCA is an independent federal agency that regulates and examines the Farm Credit System, a network of lenders with nearly $240 billion in assets.
Thompson grew up on a Whitley County farm, and she and her husband have a farm in northern Indiana’s Marshall County. She was the Democratic nominee for governor in 2008.
