Help with internship search available in Bracken

10/03/12 2:30 p.m.

For students who need some help finding an internship, the library in conjunction with the Career Center will host a session today to inform students about the different resources available on campus.

"I think maybe they haven't experienced all these resources in all their classes," Brenda Yates Habich, an information services librarian, said. "It's a framework on how to find [an internship]."

From 3 until 3:50 p.m., Habich will discuss the library's reference tools such as ReferenceUSA and Business Source Premier.

Deb Dolak, a coordinator career resources at the Career Center, will focus on the opportunities available through the center for students who need help searching for an internship.

"I am showing resources that the Career Center has that students can use to either help them prepare for their internship experience by resume writing, cover letters, getting your interviewing skills brushed up on as well as some specific internship databases we have," she said.

Internships are posted through the Career Center Cardinal Career link as well as Internships-USA, internships.com and Vault Career Insider.

The session will last about 50 minutes.

Habich encourages students to attend the session.

"I hope they understand places they can go to find helpful resources at their fingertips," she said.

Dolak said the search for internships is easiest now when you're a student.

"The search is never going to be easier than it is right now because they have the resources and the people around to help them through the process and guide them through that," she said. "After they leave Ball State, it's not as easy to connect. Some resources are only available when you're a student."
