Minnetrista to participate in Museum Day Live! with free admission day

09/26/12 7:15 p.m.

All it costs to see exhibits on art, Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War is the price of printing out a free ticket.

For Museum Day Live! on Saturday, Minnetrista will open its doors for free admission.

The nationwide event is presented by Smithsonian magazine and was created to make cultural education available for everyone. Museum Day Live! will take place in more than 1,400 museums around the country.

Tickets are available at Smithsonianmag.com and must be printed for free admission. These tickets will grant entrance for two to all current exhibits and galleries at Minnestrista and one other museum venue for Saturday only.

Current exhibits at Minnestrista include "Open Space: Art About the Land," "Abraham Lincoln: The Image" and "Away From Home: Civil War Letters."

Hannah Whiteman, Minnetrista communications specialist, said by participating in the event, she hopes visitors will get to experience an educational opportunity.

"Normally, Minnetrista charges a $5 entrance fee for non-member visitors," Whiteman said. "This free-entrance ticket is a great way for everyone to see all of our current exhibits, museum display cases and galleries without charge."

The farmers market will be open earlier in the day from 8 a.m. to noon, and the museum is open 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Last year, Whiteman said there were about 70 visitors and the museum is expecting the same amount this year.

More information about Minnetrista and the current exhibits available can be found at minnetrista.net.
