Acoustic band Mountain Heart to play at Pruis

Acoustic band Mountain Heart has stood on many stages throughout its career including the Grand Ole Opry Stage, where the band has played 125 times. It has shared the stage with acts such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Montgomery Gentry, Brad Paisley, George Jones and The Avett Brothers.

At 7:30 tonight, Mountain Heart will take the stage in Pruis Hall.

Mountain Heart is touring in support of its seventh album "That Just Happened," which was released in late 2010.

According to Mountain Heart's website, the band has been revolutionizing acoustic music since the late '90s. The band is known for its live performances and versatile acts.

Mountain Heart is the second act in the Pruis Hall concert series.

"They are acoustic and some would classify them as bluegrass or country, but there is a distinct cutting edge, modern quality to them," said Sherri Contos, assistant director of marketing of John R. Emens Auditorium. "I'm expecting the show to be very high energy and very fun."

Following gospel singer Ruthie Foster, Mountain Heart is bringing something completely different from any of the other acts in the series, Contos said.

"Their distinct sound will appeal to all ages and I think that anyone can walk away from their performance and say that they had a good time," Contos said. "There won't be anyone like them at Pruis again this year, so students should come out and enjoy some good music."

Students can purchase tickets at the door for $10 or at the box office before 6 p.m. for $5. For adults, tickets are $18 in advance and $23 at the door, and for youth it is $5.
