University Program Board offers Welcome Week events

University Program Board will be hosting several events during Welcome Week to encourage freshmen to get involved in campus activities and welcome back returning students.

"It shows you how you can get connected with other people on campus at the very beginning of the year," Danielle Curnutte, a senior hospitality and food management major and program director with UPB, said. "It's a great way to start off the new year with free things on campus."

Wednesday night will feature Streeter Seidell from College Humor followed by Matt Braunger from MADtv and Comedy Central at John R. Emens Auditorium.

"[In] years past, we have always filled Emens and we are hoping to do the same," Curnutte said. "They are two really funny guys."

The doors will open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.

Students can sign up for Open Mic night on Thursday at 8 p.m. and the acts will begin at 9 p.m. at University Green.

"We always do open mic nights throughout the year and so it's a good time to have students show off what they can do," Curnutte said. "Thursday night open mic is a big hit with a lot of students, especially people who are in music and love to do music. It gives them a chance because maybe it's not their major."

The annual Quad Bash on Friday will feature inflatables, games, giveaways and free food.

Students need to bring their student ID and guests can attend for $1. This is taking place on the Quad, between the Art Museum and Lucina Hall.

The Welcome Week events are well attended, with about 1,500 students attending last year's Quad Bash.

Curnutte encouraged students to come to the events this week.

"It gives them an opportunity to see what Ball State is all about and to see that there are things going on on campus throughout the year and already paid for with tuition," she said. "You will have fun no matter what event you come to."
