Pence asks Daniels to deny state-run exchange

Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Pence is asking Gov. Mitch Daniels to reject a state-run health insurance exchange called for by the federal health care law.

Pence wrote in a letter to Daniels Tuesday that there is "too much uncertainty" to approve a state exchange.

A decision to forego a state exchange would send Indiana residents without health insurance into a federal exchange.

The Supreme Court ruled in June that the individual mandate in the health care law is constitutional.

A spokesman for Democrat John Gregg said he planned to meet with Daniels in the coming weeks. An email message seeking comment was sent to a spokesman for Libertarian candidate Rupert Boneham. Daniels asked the three candidates for their input before he submits a response to the federal government.
