THE DYESSERTATION: Burger King offers bacon sundaes

Burger King must really admire Ron Swanson. That's the only reasonable purpose for the "have it your way" fast food chain to release bacon sundaes today.

It is a good idea? Yes, because nothing tastes better than crispy bacon on ice cream. Nothing feels better than 510 calories, 18 grams of fat and 61 grams of sugar in the form of bacon crumbles, caramel, fudge and a piece of bacon on vanilla soft serve.

Bacon lovers, you can truly have your way on ice cream.

Nashville, Tenn., which got to try the concoction out earlier in the year, must have liked it enough for Burger King to give it a go nation wide.

America now has the perfect summertime treat.

Though, I will admit I was a little disappointed with the King's decision on this; why isn't it even more American and in a bacon-weaved bowl? Maybe the company is trying to please people who really love meat in desserts, but Burger King, if you're going to go all out, you need to go all out. There's clearly not enough bacon - you only get one piece of bacon and then some bacon crumbles.

Perhaps Burger King didn't hear Ron Swanson in an episode of "Parks and Recreation" when he said, "Just give me all the bacon and eggs you have. Wait, wait. I worry what you just heard was, 'Give me a lot of bacon and eggs.' What I said was, 'Give me all the bacon and eggs you have.'"

Except, at least in my mind, the fast food chain figured bacon and ice cream could be better.

If the sundae had more meat, it would remind me of Kentucky Fried Chicken's Double Down, which has 540 calories, 32 grams of fat and 1,380 milligrams of sodium. The thought of the two pairing for a meal feels like a torture scene.

If you're in New York, you might not get to drink a super-sized high-calorie drink with the bacon sundae. If Mayor Michael Bloomberg's plan to ban the drinks passes the formal vote in September, and the bacon sundae is still on the menu, you won't be able to wash the sundae down with a drink more than 16 ounces. I wonder if he will try to ban the sundae, too?

It can be difficult to come up with original food items in such a competitive market. Throw some bacon on it and the sundae could be one of the saviors of Burger King's market share, which has been sliding, according to the Associated Press.

I doubt I need to say the bacon sundae isn't good for the body. If you want to eat it, that's your decision, but don't blame a fast food restaurant for your inevitable health problems.
