Police raid local convenience stores after bath salts investigaton

Indiana State police, along with city and county officers, raided six convenience stores today in relation to an ongoing-investigation of bath salts.

The raids were held in Yorktown and Muncie, and resulted in several arrests.

The increased use of bath salts has been a growing concern among the public with cases like the man who was attacked in Miami. Authorities believe his assailant was under the influence of bath salts.

Bath salts refer to a designer drug that has similar results methamphetamine and LSD. The Indiana Senate passed a law in February banning synthetic drugs like bath salts and a similar drug, spice.

Both spice and bath salts have been the suspected cause of several crimes in Muncie since April.

The Star Press reported the raids began at 9:30 Monday morning after months of investigation into the sale of bath salts at local convenience stores including the BP station at Wheeling and Centennial avenues, the Citgo on East Memorial Drive and the Yorktown Mart.

Police also raided several residential areas including apartments in Orchard Apartment complex and a home in Indianapolis.
