WOMENS BASKETBALL: Carter shows glimpse into Ball State's future

Freshman fights through foul trouble to score 11 points in final regular season game

Brittany Carter may only be a freshman guard, but after seeing her three senior teammates honored after Ball State's 70-65 loss to Toledo at home Tuesday, she said she has learned a lot from the departing players.

"Megan (Craft) taught me how to be a team leader, and just to really take sacrifices for the team. Amber (Crago) taught me how to be physical and tough through everything. And [Suzzane Grossnickle] is that one who ... I don't know. She's just taught me everything."

Although Toledo didn't score a field goal for the last 7:52 of the game, it managed to pull out a narrow victory over Ball State on Senior Night.

Fittingly, Grossnickle led the team in points with 20 and rebounds with nine in her final game playing in Worthen Arena.

As the three seniors were recognized for their past accomplishments, freshman Brittany Carter's future started to shine through. Despite being limited with foul problems, Carter was second on the team with 11 points against the Rockets.

Carter hit an early three-pointer to give the Cardinals a 5-2 lead. With two fouls in the first half, she was limited to just eight minutes. She came back in the second half of the game to score eight points, including another three-pointer.

Throughout the second half, Ball State stayed within nine points of Toledo's lead, but couldn't close the gap. The Cardinals only led for 11 minutes and four seconds of the game——all in the first half.

After the game, Carter wanted to make sure the right people were recognized.

"It's an exciting night," Carter said. "Whether we win or lose, we've got to appreciate our seniors, and that's definitely what they deserve. They deserve all the appreciation in the world. They've all been great leaders on and off the court and really I look up to them, honestly."
