2 football players arrested after Village bar fight

Three Ball State students, two of which are football players, were arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of battery at Dill Street Bar and Grill.

According to the arrest reports, Travis Freeman and Kenneth Lee had fought Zechariah Smith at the Village bar.

"Lee struck [Smith] and grabbed him by the neck. [Smith] has visible injuries to his head and neck area," according to the report.

Smith was identified in preliminary charges as the victim, but was also arrested on suspicion of battery.

Lee, a senior transfer from St. Joseph's College in Renneselaer, Ind., did not play this year due to his transfer.

Freeman, a senior starting linebacker for the Cardinals, left the bar after the fight but was brought back to Dill Street and positively identified by Smith, according to the arrest report.

"[Smith] stated another subject started the fight but Freeman joined the fight and hit him," the report said.

The preliminary charges filed are classified as Class B misdemeanors and are punishable by up to 180 days in jail and up to $1,000 in fines.
