MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals rout Chippewas on road

Team uses 16-3 run to start game to grab win

Ball State was led by several new faces Wednesday night in an impressive 73-52 road victory over Mid-American Conference West Division opponent Central Michigan.

Sophomore guard Tyrae Robinson set a new career-high, scoring 20 points while dishing out five assists. Redshirt sophomore forward Tyler Koch followed close behind setting his career-high with 17 points hitting 3 for 5 from 3-point range.

Coming into Wednesday's game Robinson and Koch both had a career-high of 14 points. Robinson was forced to sit out the first half of the season due to academic ineligibility and has had an impact since he's came into the lineup.

Koch sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules after he transferred to Ball State from Wright State.

Senior guard Randy Davis added seven points, seven rebounds and 10 assists for the Cardinals, who shot 54.2 percent from the floor.

Preseason All-MAC selection Jarrod Jones was held to his lowest scoring output on the season with four points and seven rebounds. Jones, a senior forward, has led Ball State (11-5, 3-1 MAC) in scoring throughout the season and has been second in the entire conference.

Ball State used a 16-3 run in the first half to jump out to a strong lead against Central Michigan (7-10, 2-2 MAC) and didn't look back. The Cardinals also out rebounded the Chippewas 40-24.

Central Michigan was led by Austin McBroom with 16 points while Trey Zeigler, who came in averaging over 16 points per game, came away with just six points.

In the first half, Ball State held Central Michigan to 8 for 25 from the floor which led to a 38-22 deficit at halftime. The Chippewas would not get any closer than 15 points in the second half.

Ball State continues its road trip as it travels to Northern Illinois on Saturday for another conference matchup at 7 p.m.
