MUNCIE, Ind. — Police said a Muncie woman and her boyfriend sexually assaulted a friend's 6-month-old daughter, leaving the baby girl with venereal disease.
Ashley Lynn Stapert, 21, was being held without bond Friday in Delaware County Jail on preliminary charges of child molesting and criminal deviate conduct. The Star Press reported that Stapert also implicated a man who was being sought by police.
A probable cause affidavit said Stapert admitted to detectives she had performed a sex act on the infant and fondled her.
The document said the girl's mother allowed the pair to stay in her apartment from September until early November and at times left the baby in their care.
An investigation began Nov. 9 after Stapert and her boyfriend allegedly boasted about the crime to acquaintances.
