EUROPEAN EXPERIENCES: Girl look at that body

As the Christmas season is upon us, the gym tends to become more crowded at this time of year with people trying to get into shape or stay in shape before the eating frenzy begins. As you well know, Ball State University has an amazing fitness facility. I was lucky enough to be able to use it last year during my sophomore year and fell in love with the place. It is huge, well equipped and has a lot to offer students. One of the best facts about it is that its free. Well, it's sort of free. We pay for it somewhere in fees but every time I went, I didn't have to pay to use it. In addition to this, I could use the swimming pool for free as well with my student ID. Here at my new school in England, it works a bit different.

There are many local gyms around that offer student discounts and are great places to work out. Although I never have been to one of these, I do have friends that enjoy exercising at some of the local gyms. They are somewhat far away though and I knew if it was farther than I would like, the chances of me going regularly would go down. However, I decided I would use the facility that is on campus. The membership for this gym is divided into three categories: bronze, silver and gold. I wanted to just pay for the bronze because all I really wanted was access to the fitness suite, which has the weights and all the cardio equipment. It does not work like that though. I had to pay for the gold membership in order to have access to this. This fee is £105 for 12 months, which is roughly $165. I really, really didn't want to pay that money. I could put it toward food or other expenses. I also knew though if I paid for it, it would make me go. So far, this is relatively true. I didn't go for about a two week period though because I was quite sick.
