Tyler to make second appearance on WCRD

Following his recent victory, mayor-elect Dennis Tyler will be making a second appearance on WCRD 91.3 on Wednesday to talk about his future plan as mayor.

"Radio Sweetheart" host David Boulton will interview Tyler at 9 p.m.

"I will be tying in some issues about when he was the representative for the state and exactly how his experience as a firefighter has enabled him to get involved with the government," Boulton said.

Last time Tyler was interviewed on WCRD was while running in the mayoral race, which he won against incumbent Sharon McShurley.

Tyler said he hopes his interview will reach people in both the Ball State and Muncie communities.

"The election is over, now it is time for people to come together to try and move Muncie forward," he said.

During his hour-long show, Boulton said he thinks listeners will respond positively to Tyler, who is the first Democratic mayor in Muncie in the last 20 years.

"Our university is split pretty evenly between Republicans and Democrats, and perhaps a bigger shift toward Democrats," Boulton said.

Tyler said he hopes that people will learn what is going on in Muncie from his interview.

"Hopefully by doing that in the proper way, we'll have an opportunity to get them more involved in the community," Tyler said.

Josh Winn, information and communication science graduate student, said he plans on tuning into the show.

"He is the first Democrat we've had in a long time, and I would want to know how he plans on making changes," he said.

Winn also said he feels as if the Muncie and Ball State communities are separate.

"Muncie relies on Ball State a lot and Ball State relies on Muncie, but not as much," Winn said.

Boulton said he hopes his interview with Tyler will help students get to know elected officials a little more.

"I want them to be aware and knowledgeable about current legislation and for them to feel like Muncie is their hometown," Boulton said.
