A campus organization called Free the Slaves will host a documentary and information session today at 7 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.
The human rights organization Invisible Children will visit Ball State to talk about its campaign to end child slavery in Uganda. The group will show a documentary called "The Rescue," which encourages people in the United States to get involved in the movement.
Chelsey Outcalt, president of Free the Slaves, said students can support the efforts of Invisible Children by purchasing merchandise tonight and helping to spread the group's message.
Outcalt, senior elementary and special education double major, said she started to build compassion for victims of human trafficking after learning about it in high school.
"Modern day slavery does happen every day," she said. "People need to become more aware of it."
Outcalt said other student groups, such as OxFam and the new campus group International Justice Mission, will also be represented at the event.
