Park Police seek to question man about DC gunfire

WASHINGTON — U.S. Park Police said they have obtained an arrest warrant for a man investigators believe was involved in gunfire near the White House.

Sgt. David Schlosser said investigators are looking for 21-year-old Oscar Ramiro Ortega. Schlosser said the warrant charges with Ortega carrying a dangerous weapon, a felony. Ortega is believed to be living in the Washington area with ties to Idaho.

Police closed a stretch of Constitution Avenue near the White House on Friday night to investigate reports of gunfire in the area and recovered an AK-47 assault rifle.

Secret Service spokesman Edwin Donovan said witnesses heard shots and saw two vehicles racing on Constitution Avenue toward 17th Street, and one of the vehicles was abandoned at 23rd and Constitution.

Police said they found an abandoned vehicle Friday night near the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge after the gunfire was reported. Schlosser said items found in the vehicle led them to Ortega. Authorities said the White House did not appear to have been targeted. The Secret Service reported an assault rifle was found at the scene and witnesses reported the driver ran across the bridge toward Arlington, Va.
