Former presidential adviser to visit Ball State

The president's top campaign strategist will speak to students about leadership and his time with the president tonight.

Former senior adviser to the president, David Axelrod, will present his lecture titled "Witness to History: Leadership Lessons from a Presidential Advisor" at 7 p.m. in John R. Emens Auditorium.

Mitch Isaacs, associate director of Student Life and overseer of the Excellence in Leadership program, said in a Daily News report the lecture is a good opportunity to hear from someone who works closely with the president.

"We watch the news, and we hear about what's happening, and we ask ourselves, ‘Why? Why was this decision made? How did this process happen? How did we get here?'" Isaacs said. "And the great thing about having someone like Mr. Axelrod on campus is he is one of the president's most trusted advisers, so he has often been in the room with the president when these decisions have been made."

Students will be able to submit questions to Axelrod via the EIL Facebook page at facebook.com/bsueil. Isaacs said in a DN report a few questions will be read aloud during the question and answer section.

Students will also be able to approach a microphone to ask Axelrod questions personally. The question and answer section will last about 45 minutes.

Isaacs said in a DN report he hopes students take advantage of being able to ask a former presidential adviser questions.

"I hope people will ask about whatever is important to them," Isaacs said. "What I would like to see happen is people frame those questions in a clear, concise and respectful manner."
