7:18 p.m. — With only seven precincts remaining, Democratic mayoral candidate Dennis Tyler is leading Republican incumbent with 56 percent of the vote.
Fifty-one of the 58 precints show Tyler in the lead with 7,048 votes, compared to McShurley's 5,439.
"I'm feeling optimistic," McShurley said. "I want to either win big or lose big. I don't want to go through [a recount] again."
McShurley's campaign manager Deb Ervin said when McShurley was elected four years ago, it was a definite nail biter that they don't want to go through again.
At the Democratic Headquarters, the room fills with cheers every time Tyler's name is mentioned as people gather around the television.
"These past few days have been very stressful and there's been a lot of work going into this," Michael Quirk, Democratic chairman, said. "Their funding has been absolutely good because having a good candidate, people are more willing to give out and we've been trying to stay positive the entire time."
