Wallace talks with College Republicans at Ball State

A 2012 Indiana gubernatorial campaign made its way to Ball State Tuesday evening.

Republican candidate Jim Wallace visited the campus to speak to the College Republicans about his current campaign. He spoke of his positions on the issues that students care about, which ranged from health care to education reform. But he views job creation as the most important issue of his campaign.

Wallace has an extensive background in business and received his Masters degree from Harvard business school. He is best known for founding TWG Capital and working for Bain Capital in Massachusetts under current presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.

"My whole business career has been focused on job growth and economical development," Wallace said. "Most residents in Indiana are concerned about job growth more than any other issue surrounding us."

He believes his experience in the business field is what separates him from his opponent Mike Pence.

"Pence's previous job was a radio-show host, fine profession, but how that relates to running a $57 billion organization in our state government is a mystery to me," said Wallace. "My business experience can also be appealing to the students here because someone will be working hard to make sure they have jobs when they leave."

One student in attendance was concerned about the decriminalization of marijuana.

"Personally, I believe that marijuana should be decriminalized," said Wallace. "That's actually a question I haven't received much on my campaign trail.

Wallace is currently visiting all 92 counties in Indiana on his campaign trail in his "Jobs-1" humvee, and his next stop will be Evansville.
