Student Center hosts ball in honor of haunted Elliot Hall

Music filled the air as costumed students danced and tip-toed through a haunted house in the spirit of Ball State's best know haunted building, Elliot Hall.

The annual Elliot Halloween Ball was asylum themed. Students dressed in a variety of costumes to show off their Halloween spirit Friday night.

"I'm excited that it is finally here, there's been a lot of preparation for it," Melissa Webb, assistant hall director of Elliot Hall, said. "We had to form a committee and the chairs for the ball, and we are hoping to raise $300 to $400."

The 37th Annual Elliot Haunted Ball brought students out to have fun and to help raise money for homeless shelters and food pantries in Muncie.

"The money that we raise will be donated toward a charity," Amanda Wehrman, event organizer, said. "We have a mix of a canned food drive and a money drive. We will either be merging with ABSO, an improv comedy troupe that helps with charities at Ball State or we will be sending the cans to the Muncie Mission."

Students also enjoyed haunted tours around Elliot Hall. People in the haunted house dressed up as asylum characters, chasing after the students. Many laughed off the fright of the haunted house with their friends.

At the ball, students came dressed in a variety of costumes ranging from vampires to a bright yellow banana. Many enjoyed making creative costumes filled with glam and glitter and others filled with horror.

"I'm really excited since this is my first year at college, I'm having a lot of fun with my friends," freshman Cecilia Shu said. "I enjoyed picking out my costume, which is killer Alice, and wearing fake blood. I am really looking forward to coming out next year for this event."

Students also judged the different costumes and gave away prizes at the end of the night.

"In being a judge at this event, ... I heard it was a really great event," Sterlyng Powell said. "The prizes that we are giving out are for the best costume and the most innovative costume."

"I was so excited about the Halloween ball since this is my favorite holiday of the year," Hannah Jackson, freshman anthropology major, said. "I think that the money they are raising to help with different charities is worth coming out and having fun to help support a great cause."
