McKinley Avenue was temporarily closed Wednesday morning from University Avenue to Jackson Street while the department of public works milled the road.
Pete Heuer, superintendent of public works, said the city is repaving some streets around campus. These are the last projects that will be completed by the end of the year. Other streets, including Bethel, Ball and Janney, located on the North side of campus, were milled Wednesday afternoon.
"There's a lot of activity going on around campus," Heuer said. "This is the final push for paving for the year."
The department of public works is also changing the intersection on McKinley Avenue and Jackson Street. McKinley was re-shaped on the intersection so that drivers don't have to make sharp turns to continue on the avenue once they pass Jackson Street.
McKinley Avenue will be closed temporarily again while the E&B Paving, the contracted company, paves the street this week. Heuer said he is not sure when the street will be ready because it will depend on the weather and the company's schedule. The plan is to have McKinley Avenue ready today or Friday.
