LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Student disagrees with Daniels visit coverage

I was appalled at the story Gov. Daniels visits Muncie Mall for book signing, to meet with locals.

The group of students that wanted to exercise their first amendment rights at the book signing was Feminists for Action, an organization at Ball State.

It was offending to see that The Daily News does not support all of its students. The writer failed to write a well-rounded story, and did not choose to even talk to these "Ball State students" that were mentioned, even though half of the story referred to them.

As a journalist and former editor-in-chief of my high school paper, I have had much experience in writing about more controversial topics. The number one rule I followed: get all sides of the story, and definitely do not show any bias.

Ball State is a diverse campus, and the students here have all different beliefs. This story only expressed the beliefs of people in support of Governor Daniels.

I'm pretty sure the beliefs expressed by Maddison Klontz aren't representative of all students on campus. The idea that Daniels may be "a little too blunt" does not even begin to describe why people do not like him, and these opinions were completely left out.

I believe there is a bigger issue that was not even mentioned. If the protests by FA made their way into this story, then why was it not thought of to ask "why did they want to protest?" or "why did the mall manager say no?" There is a large issue of first amendment rights being stripped away, and it is something that has really angered many people.

As a reader of The Daily News, I hope to not see this type of writing again, and I hope future stories will not be bias as this.
