Students and staff members can donate gently used clothing to Cardinal Closet, a student service that helps provide proper attire for careers and internships.
Some students on campus are eligible to get professional wear through the program.
Ro-Anne Royer Engle, coordinator for Cardinal Closet, said they try to provide one professional outfit per student in need.
"This service is based on financial need and open to all students with an emphasis on juniors and seniors," Engle said.
Kay Bales, vice president of Student Affairs, said the idea of Cardinal Closet was proposed by a Student Affairs staff member last year.
The first Cardinal Closet opened last fall, and received about 86 students who applied for the service. Out of those 86, about 40 were accepted and only 25 students showed up to their scheduled appointment. Soon after shopping 24 out of 25 students left satisfied, Engle said.
"These are gently used items for free," she said. "Sometimes extra money is hard to find for students and there is no obligation to do anything to receive the clothing."
To access the closet is simple and takes only about five minutes to be considered, Engle said. An email will be sent to students and faculty on Nov. 1, explaining the service and how to get items from Cardinal Closet.
Students will be able to set up an appointment, and if they are chosen to participate, a confirmation email will be sent along with the specific day they are allowed to shop.
Cardinal Closet will begin accepting appointment requests for Nov. 21 and 22, and Dec. 1.
Bales said there is not specific number of students who can use this service, but it is based on the number of items donated.
New or gently used ties, skirts, blouses, suit jackets, shirts and pants are accepted, preferably dry-cleaned.
There will be three drop-off spots on campus that will accept the clothing. Clothes will be accepted until Nov. 18.
Clothing can be dropped off at the Office of Housing and Residence Life located in LaFollete Complex, the Office of Student Life located in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center and the Career Center located in Lucina Hall.
