CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — Federal authorities say a woman who wanted to keep her mother and brother from flying to New York on a date near the Sept. 11 anniversary called an Arizona airport and falsely claimed a bomb was on board their flight.
The FBI says the Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y., woman called Tucson airport police twice to say she had overheard details of a bomb plot targeting a Southwest Airlines flight on Sept. 10.
The threat led authorities at the airport to remove luggage from Flight 2475 and conduct a search. No bomb was found.
The complaint against the woman was unsealed in a federal court on Long Island. She is due to make an appearance in court Tuesday afternoon.
A message left for Southwest Airlines was not immediately returned.
