Cinemas prepare for final showdown

Theaters expect sold-out Harry Potter shows

It's a completely different atmosphere during Harry Potter premiers, as muggles dress in sweeping robes and brandish homemade wands while they wait in line.

Jessica Huskisson, a shift manager at the Hamilton 16 IMAX theater in Noblesville, remembers last November's premiere.

"When someone walked in dressed as Voldemort, the whole theater began booing," she said.

She was able to get the night off last year and is looking forward to having the night off this year.

Others were not as lucky. The IMAX theater will have a full staff on hand to accommodate for the show that managers said Wednesday was nearly sold out. Ten concessionists, two box office workers and five cleaners will help the night go off without a hitch.

They will have 11 theaters open for the midnight show, with two showing the 3D version and one in IMAX 3D.

Huskisson said she expects a positive reaction to the 3D version because it was made with special effects in mind. They weren't added afterward like in other movies.

Each theater in the Muncie area and neighboring towns are adding their own twist to the night.

At AMC Showplace 7 on West Community Drive, two posters will be raffled off to those who buy a rewards card that night. The poster portrays Harry and Voldemort in a face-off with a single wand separating them.

Because they are a smaller theater, only two shows will be playing.

AMC Showplace 12 on East Princeton Avenue, on the other hand, will have seven shows – six regular and one in 3D.

The last is a special combo pack allowing guests to come early and watch "The Deathly Hallows: Part 1" immediately followed by Part 2.

All the tickets are selling quickly, a theater manager at Showplace 12 said. He expects people to show up about two hours early to get in line for the film.

"Being the last one, the demand we've had for it has been more than we've had for any of them," he said.

At Showplace 12, each ticket may correspond with a different theater, but viewers will be able to choose which theater they want to sit in. The only exception is the 3D showing, he said.

Huskisson will be a part of the large crowd waiting to get in at her theater.

"It's going to be huge," Huskisson said.
