Frog Baby still not returned to her home

Students walking north of Bracken Library may have noticed an orange cone replaced their good luck charm Monday morning, but Frog Baby should return to her home any day.

The statue and water was removed from the pond after Facilities Planning and Management realized the fountain wasn't working properly.

The problem with the fountain is fairly common and easily fixed, Jim Lowe, director of Facilities Planning and Management, said.

"With all these types of fountain statues, there's supply lines that go up the middle of the statue that was plugged, so [the plumbers] unplugged it," he said. "And the anchors that anchor to the base of the pond itself were rusty, so we're going to drill new anchors."

The department noticed the fountain wasn't working about a week ago. The statue was removed so plumbers could check the piping on Monday.

In the meantime, Lowe said Frog Baby is under lock and key so she doesn't disappear.

"It's amazing how quick things like that would walk away," he said. "So just to make sure it doesn't, we've got it under protection."

Lowe said the repairs shouldn't take long.

"Weather permitting, by the end of the week [they'll be done]. We will reinstall it, paint the base of the pond and turn the system back in perhaps Monday or Tuesday next week," he said. "Again, if it rains, you can't paint. We're now weather dependent.

"Frog Baby should reappear in a couple days. You might walk by and see it tomorrow."
