McKinley Mile rescheduled for April 30

The Office of Student Life will host the traditional McKinley Mile race on April 30, after cancelling it on its original date because of inclement weather.

The race will begin at 1 p.m. at University Green, and while there will be no inflatables and other activities that were included on the original date, there will still be some games, music and free food provided by University Program Board for spectators and participants.

Brett Watson, program director for the Office of Student Life, said the McKinley Mile was originally canceled because the had to first consult the city in order to close down streets for the rescheduled race.

"We didn't give a rain date at the start to not give false hope, he said. "But everything fell on the line and we were able to plan it for the 30th."

Watson said the teams were told the race would be rescheduled, and all contestants expressed they wanted to participate. However, some teams already have plans for April 30.

"It's definitely going to be more scaled down, but we still want to make sure [the students] have fun out there," he said.

The following roads will be closed on April 30 from noon until 5 p.m.

-McKinley Avenue from Neely to Riverside avenues

-Riverside Avenue from McKinley to New York avenues
