Updates on MAC teams in postseason tournaments

Kent State takes down Fairfield to move into quarterfinals

Mid-American Conference teams still playing in postseason national tournaments had a mixture of results over the weekend.

Despite receiving a seventh seed in the National Invitation Tournament, Kent State stormed past Fairfield with a 72-68 win on Sunday to move into the quarterfinals. Kent State will take on No. 1 seeded Colorado Tuesday for a shot at the semifinals.

In the CollegeInsider.com Tournament, a defensive battle between MAC opponents Buffalo and Western Michigan ended with a one-point victory for the Bulls Saturday night.

Buffalo won the game 49-48 in the second round of the tournament to advance to the quarterfinals for a game against Iona on Tuesday night.

Miami was eliminated in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational tournament on March 16, losing 76-59 to Rhode Island.

Akron ran into early disappointment as well, losing to Notre Dame 69-56 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
