SOFTBALL: Freshman named MAC West Player of the Week

Gilbert went 10-19, hit two home runs over weekend

With only nine games under her belt, freshman outfielder/pitcher Jennifer Gilbert is already making noise in the Mid-American Conference.

Gilbert was named MAC West Division Player of the Week, according to the league office Tuesday.

Playing in only her second tournament with Ball State this past weekend in the Phyllis Rafter Memorial, Gilbert went 10-19 with 10 RBIs, two home runs and five runs scored.

Gilbert said she improved this past weekend, but there are still things she will continue to work on.

"I think I improved a lot on my hitting this weekend," she said. "The things that I will work on is staying back and waiting on the slower pitchers, letting the ball to get into my zone and make sure that I stay through the ball and drive through it."

Ball State travels to Tampa and Clearwater, Fla. this weekend to play in the Under Armour Invitational. First pitch is at 12:30 p.m. Friday against Arkansas.
