SOFTBALL: Cardinals shut out in Florida

Ball State fails to score a run in two games

It was another sunny day on the beaches of Clearwater, Fla. for the Ball State softball team.

Unfortunately, the sun couldn't set fast enough. Ball State lost to both Quinnipiac and Florida Saturday in the Under Armour Showcase by a combined score of 25-0.

In the first game against the Bobcats, the Cardinals managed to get only five hits and struck out 11 times at the plate.

Junior right-handed pitcher Audrey Workman went 5 2/3 innings against the Bobcats, giving up four runs and striking out six batters.

In the evening game against No.1 ranked Florida, the pitching staff walked 17 batters and gave up an improbable 21 runs on 12 hits.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Audra Sanders started the game against the Gators, giving up eight hits, 11 runs, and six walks in 2 2/3 innings.

Junior right-handed pitcher Audrey Workman and freshman right-handed pitcher Lauren Williamson each came in for the struggling Sanders, giving up a total of 11 walks and 10 runs in their 2 1/3 innings pitched.

Senior right-fielder Alyssa Collins led the way offensively for the Cardinals with three hits and a walk while freshman third baseman Audrey Bickel added a hit and a walk of her own on the day.

The Cardinals close out play in the Under Armour Showcase Sunday, when they play the Hawks of St. Joseph's . First pitch is at 12:00 p.m.
