SOFTBALL: Ball State splits Saturday games, pushes weekend record to 2-2

Sanders gives up two hits, no runs in seven innings to shut out Villanova

In another up and down day, the Ball State softball team split both games Saturday in the Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.

Ball State started the afternoon with a 5-0 shutout of Villanova before falling to eighth-ranked Michigan 8-3 in the night game.

Sophomore pitcher Audra Sanders gave up two hits and no runs in seven innings of work against Villanova. Junior right-handed pitcher Audrey Workman struggled with her location against Michigan, giving up 12 walks and six runs in only 3 2/3 innings pitched.

Leading the way offensively for Ball State on the day was senior shortstop Alicia Barkley with four hits, three runs, and an RBI and freshman third baseman Audrey Bickel with three hits and two RBIs.

The Cardinals continue play in the Under Armour Invitational Sunday against East Tennessee State. First pitch is at 12 p.m.
