Cellular providers offer discounts to Ball State students, faculty

A $100 bill credit from Verizon is one of several discounts and incentives from cellular providers available to Ball State students.

The bill credit was announced two weeks ago through an e-mail from Mark Watters, director of Telephone and Postal Services.

Watters said the timing worked out to benefit the launch of the iPhone for Verizon.

"Ball State is known as a cutting edge university," he said in an e-mail. "Ball State is embracing this technology and working with operators to be part of the future. [It] works with each operator to get the lowest rates and best discounts for our community."

Ball State offers deals with AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint. Each provider negotiates contract discounts based on different target audiences, Watters said.

"Therefore, we have different discounts for our 3,000 employees than we do for our 18,000 students," he said.

Other cellular discounts include:

AT&T-

10 percent off voice

10 percent off data

Verizon-

$100 bill credit

25 percent of select accessories

T-Mobile-

6 percent off data

6 percent off text

Sprint-
