WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals split weekend matchups

Ball State beats Valparaiso, loses to Chicago over weekend

The Ball State women's tennis team came away with only one win this weekend after traveling to Valparaiso, Ind. and Chicago.

Ball State won at Valparaiso on Saturday, but fell to University of Chicago on Sunday, making the team's record 2-4 on the season.

The Cardinals held Valpariso without a point in its first match and won 7-0.

Hayley Hall and Paola Rodriquez defeated Brittany O'Reilly and Aubree Zdanovec 8-1 in doubles. A victory from Kylee Johnson and Kristel Sanders gave the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead over the Crusaders.

At No. 1 singles, Georgina Thomson earned a straight set shutout win 6-0, 6-0 against O'Reilly.

Freshman Sanders won 6-0, 6-0 and defeated Katie Bilyea in the No.5 singles match.

Despite their success on Saturday, the Cardinals failed to translate that same play to Sunday's match against the Maroons, and lost a close match with the score of 4-3.

Chicago took the doubles point at the start of the match. Only one Ball State doubles team won. Lauren Pickrel and Sarah Hebble defeated Jen Kung and Aswini Krishnan 8-7.

Hebble, Sanders and Rodriguez were the three players to get singles wins for Ball State in the match.

Ball State will continue on the road this weekend to face IPFW on Saturday. The team will then return home for its home opener on Sunday for a match against Oakland University.
