Sigma Kappa to host second annual Battle of the Sexes

Sigma Kappa sorority is hosting their second annual "Battle of the Sexes," which will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday in Ball Gym. Money raised from the event will benefit Sigma Kappa's Ultraviolet Campaign for Alzheimer's Disease research and the Sigma Kappa Foundation.

Teams of 6 to 10 members of the same sex will compete against teams of the opposite gender to show which gender is superior.

Brittany McMurray, who is in charge of organizing the event, said teams can register for the event at the Atrium. Teams have to pay a $50 fee, and spectators will be charged $1 at the doors.

She said the event will be very similar to the TV show.

"We will have challenges like changing baby dolls' diapers," she said. "We also have our own version of ‘Don't Forget the Lyrics' and an obstacle course at the end."

Other events include Name That Sports Team, Name That Designer, Name That Baking Item, Football Toss, Etiquette Challenge and more.

She said while last year it was mainly open to members of the greek community, this year Sigma Kappa is extending the invitation to any Ball State student.

"For these events, usually the greek community is involved," she said. "We are trying to reach residence halls and the rest of the community. This year we are trying to be more involved with the community."

This is McMurray's first year helping put together the event. The freshman photojournalism major said putting together the event with other members of the sorority gave them more chances to learn about each other.

"Putting the event together gave us the opportunity to put us together to work as a team, helping something we are interested in," she said. "At the same time, we are doing community service."
