Muncie Central HS slammed in Indiana report

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — A Muncie high school under fire for allegedly mishandling a student's reported rape has had its overall performance judged unacceptable in a state review, and its principal has been reassigned.

Assistant Superintendent Tim Heller said Muncie Central High School Principal Chris Smith had been reassigned.

The Star Press newspaper reports a two-day quality review by the Indiana Department of Education in December found discipline to be the top issue cited by school staff and students.

A 16-year-old girl reported being raped in the school on Nov. 9. Police have said the alleged victim sat in the principal's office for more than two hours while the alleged attacker was allowed to leave the school.

Smith had no comment on the state review.
