Former Ball State student dies from rare genetic disorder

Kelsey Koch, a former Ball State psychology major who had been suffering from a rare gene mutation called DOCK8, died Wednesday at 5:17 p.m. at the National Institute of Health in Maryland due to complications relating to the disease.

According to a blog kept by her parents, Koch was moved to an intensive care unit Jan. 31 due to low blood pressure and a need for oxygen.

The blog, set up by her parents, was full of comments from supporters offering condolences Thursday.

Kelsey Koch's sister, Karly, who also has DOCK8, is still battling the disease.
