FOOTBALL: Ball State football player admitted, released from hospital Thursday

A starter on the Ball State football team was sent to the hospital Thursday morning after experiencing pain during a weight-training session.

Senior defensive end Andy Puthoff was suffering from pain, and after the strength and conditioning staff recognized the problem he was sent to Ball Memorial Hospital.

Puthoff was diagnosed with a pre-existing inflammation and released at 9:30 a.m., according to Joe Hernandez, associate athletic director.

Puthoff played in all 12 games last season, finishing with 34 tackles and an interception.
