TRACK AND FIELD: Ball State places fifth in Bowling Green Challenge

Cardinals total 58 points in first competition of season

Janae Taylor led Ball State track and field in the team's first indoor meet of the season on Saturday, totaling 11 points in the Bowling Green Challenge.

Taylor competed in the 60-meter dash, placing fourth with a time of 7.87. She also competed in the 200-meter dash and placed third with a time of 25.93.

Ball State (58) placed fifth at the meet behind Western Michigan (168), University of Dayton (148), Bowling Green State University (118), and Miami University (112).

Ball State came out on top in both the high jump and long jump. Thekla Lorenz placed first with a 5.75-meter jump in the long jump. With a height of 1.65 meters Rebecca Lomax scored 10 points for her first place jump in high jump.

Other front-runners on the team were Judah Smith with a time of 1:19:02 in the 500 meter run, giving her a second place finish. In the 60-meter hurdles, RaJae Marable walked away with a third place finish with a nine-second run.

The Cardinals' 4x400 team scored six points to power Ball State to a fifth place finish with a time of 4:00.78.

Placing sixth in the 800 meter run was Christine Talhelm with a time of 2:20.89.

Kelsey Nielsen and MaryKate Mellen both came in seventh in their respective events. Mellen finished with a time of 5:16.02 in the one-mile run and Nielsen finished with a time of 19:09:01 in the 5000 meter run.

Hannah Lange also helped out her team with ninth place finish in 400-meter dash with a time of fd1:02.01.
