SWIMMING AND DIVING: Ball State men's team takes first place at IUPUI

Cardinals' six event wins propels team to victory

In its first meet since Dec. 11, the Ball State men's swimming and diving team won six of 10 events and claimed the win in the IUPUI Relay Meet.

Ball State finished with 232 points, while Xavier came in second with 208. Eastern Illinois finished in third with 174 points, and IUPUI took fourth with 72 points.

Nine different swimmers were part of winning relay teams for the Cardinals, including junior Chris Krupa, who led the way for the team with five wins Monday.

Krupa was part of the winning 3x100-yard butterfly relay, the 3x100 breaststroke relay, two 400 medley relays and the 400 freestyle relay.

Sophomore Michael Weber was part of four winning relays as well as the third-place 3x100 backstroke relay.

Junior Casey Schroeder was a member of three winning relays and the second-place 800 freestyle relay.

Other Ball State swimmers who recorded wins were junior Tony DeBrota, freshman Drew Tharp, junior Gavin McNeeley, sophomore David Wood, freshman Michael Oaks and senior Josh Young.

Ball State faces a short week as it returns to action Saturday, when the team travels to Carbondale, Ill., to take on Southern Illinois.
