Local bands prepare for 'Chillage in the Village'

Winter fest will include music and live painters

A new winter music festival, paralleling summer's Wuhnurth, is coming to Muncie on Saturday.

"Chillage in the Village" will feature bands Catch Curtis, One Side Later and The Coop.

Wuhnurth Entertainment founder James Nimmer developed the idea for the festival after noting the rare opportunity to see live music during the winter, he said.

The event will also have the live painters Rays of a McGnarly Sunshine, a light show and a hooping performance by Taylor Mitchem of the Flow Fairies.

"It's an opportunity to experience music that rarely comes to Muncie while enjoying both performing and fine arts," Nimmer said.

The event has been in the making for several years, but Nimmer said there was still more he would have liked to include. It is a new event, so it made sense to have Chillage in the Village be a smaller event, he said, instead of creating something the same scale as Wuhnurth.

"It is more about everyone and getting everyone on the same wavelength," said Josh Lockwood, guitarist for Catch Curtis. "It is about having a good time and appreciating what is going on. At some point, everyone will be having as much fun as you are."

Chillage in the Village will be held at Be Here Now from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. The cost is $5 for those 21 and older and $8 for those under 21.

"It'll be an inviting atmosphere that'll get you dancing and wow your senses," Nimmer said.
