Brady Hoke to be next football coach at Michigan

Former Ball State football coach Brady Hoke has accepted an offer to become the new coach at Michigan.

The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon via a press release by the Michigan athletics department.

"We are pleased to announce the hiring of Brady," Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon said in the press release. "He is a terrific coach and will be a great ambassador and leader for our football program. We look forward to having him build a championship program on the field and in the classroom."

Hoke returns to Michigan nine seasons after he left his position as the Wolverines' defensive line coach to take the helm at Ball State.

In six seasons at Ball State, Hoke led the team to a 34-38 record and two bowl games. After leading the Cardinals to an undefeated regular season in 2008, Hoke accepted a position as the head coach at San Diego State, where he took the team to a 9-4 record in 2010, including a win over Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl.

Hoke will be formally introduced as the new Michigan coach during a news conference Wednesday.
