TOO YOUNG TO SLEEP: Kanye West stages successful comeback

New album innovative for artist

Kanye West is a genius.

Well, at least Jay-Z thinks so. While accepting the Grammy for Best Rap/Song Collaboration for his 2009 hit "Run This Town," Jay-Z praised the absent West. Jay-Z did seem sober when he made this statement, unlike how controversial collaborator has been at some ceremonies.

There is something to be said for this statement, being that it came from arguably the greatest rapper alive. Perhaps Jay-Z's respect for West has something to do with their past work together. West is a producer as well as a rapper. Before his rapping career took off, he produced several of Jay-Z's songs.

West has always been a connoisseur of innovative rap, collaborating exclusively with rappers that have this same interest, including Mos Def.

Take West's recent 35-minute film "Runaway," which features much of the music off of his latest album, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy." Not only does this film exemplify West's appreciation for art, but it shows he can stretch himself, even in times of frustration and ridicule.
