Ball State cheerleader arrested, charged with drunken driving

A member of the Ball State coed cheerleading squad was arrested early Saturday morning on charges of driving while intoxicated.

Andrew S. Blanton, 21, from Connersville, Ind., is preliminarily charged with operating while intoxicated and operating while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content greater than .10, both Class C misdemeanors carrying maximum 60-day jail terms.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Blanton was pulled over by a Muncie police officer early Saturday morning on Tillotson Avenue for driving 42 mph in a 30-mph zone.

Muncie police officer James Lenox conducted a DUI investigation on Blanton, noting the Ball State student's "speech was slurred" and "his balance unsteady."

According to the report, Blanton failed two of four field sobriety tests. His breath test, according to Lenox, registered at .10.

Blanton is listed as a senior member of the Ball State coed cheerleaders on the team's website.

According to local court records, Blanton has no prior charges or convictions.
